The award was given in recognition of the charity’s efforts in engaging the local community, and encouraging adults to start cycling to improve health and well being.

“We are so pleased to win this award,” chairperson Diane Maciver said.

“We’re only in our second year of operation, and the award is a tribute to the efforts of our volunteer ride leaders, the support of our sponsors, and all the participants who have come out with us and improved their health and confidence already.”

Get On A Bike helps adults to get involved in cycling by providing bike, helmets and accessories for group rides around Cooper Park or to local cafes.

There are also indoor evening sessions running during the winter months.

Diane said that one “welcome feature” of Get on a Bike’s rides is the free drink and snack from a local cafe given to all riders during or after the activity.

“The coffee shop is a standard part of a bike ride,” trustee and ride leader Fee Howie added.

“And it’s where people get to know each other and build friendships.”

The charity welcomes any individual who would benefit from cycling, whether they are a complete beginner, or returning to cycling.

Referrals are also welcome from any professional or organisation that works with adults who would benefit from movement and exercise.
